1) Watch *La Bola Negra* for the first time, 2) cry while watching *La Bola Negra* for the second time, 3) look up the actors’ press conference interviews: the logical life cycle of anyone who has seen the Javis’ latest film. But for those who want to take it a step further and experience some of the film’s locations firsthand, this Saturday you can enjoy a live concert at one of the venues featured in the movie: the Ateneo de Madrid.
It will be a recital dedicated to the music of Joan Manuel Serrat, performed by a live string quartet. There’s one performance per month through February 2027, and the October show is this Saturday—so if you can’t make it this time, don’t worry, because it’s not the only date. That said, since seating is limited, we recommend checking availability well in advance.

Ateneo de Madrid

“Mediterráneo,” “Barquito de papel,” and “Cantares” are part of the concert’s set list
Given the (very) long history of the Ateneo de Madrid, it’s no surprise that two of the institution’s most recognizable spaces were chosen to appear in the Spanish film selected to represent Spain at the 2027 Oscars. It was founded in 1820 with the goal of educating and enriching society, and legendary figures such as Ramón del Valle-Inclán, Miguel de Unamuno, and Manuel Azaña are among its former presidents. In fact, Federico García Lorca himself was a member of the Ateneo.
And today, culture remains its greatest draw. Talks, book presentations, and concerts like the one on October 4 are part of its extensive program. In this case, the tribute concert to Serrat includes some of the singer-songwriter’s most iconic songs:
- Your name tastes like yerba to me
- De Cartón Piedra
- The Woman I Love
- Penélope
- Blessed music
- Lucía
- Barquito de papel
- La Saeta
- I’ve Traveled Many Roads
- What Will Become of You
- Shortly before ten o’clock
- Uncle Alberto
- Today Could Be a Great Day
- Cantares
- Mediterráneo
Since this is a special tribute as part of the famous Candlelight Concerts series, the recital will be a little more special (and intimate) thanks to its signature staging: thousands of candles illuminating every corner as the string quartet performs.
