The virtue of many artists is their ability to portray the moment in which they live. Well, there are others who, in addition to achieving it, go a step further and make their work be perceived as current long after it has been produced. This is the case of Juan Barjola (1919-2004), a benchmark of Spanish figuration and expressionism, to whom the SOLO Collection is now paying tribute with an exhibition.
The exhibition, entitled Barjola, an apocryphal portrait can be visited since yesterday and will remain at number 15, Plaza de la Independencia, until the end of the year. It is nourished by more than 30 works ranging from painting, drawing, sculpture or ceramics to AI.
To demonstrate the validity of Barjola’s artistic proposal, his pieces are exhibited in relation to those of more than 20 international artists who belong to the SOLO Collection: Stephan Balkenhol, David Altmejd, Tomoo Gokita, Eva Alonso, Martina Menegon, Lusesita, Francis Bacon or David Lynch are just some of them.
