The new route of the yellow line, which will connect Villaverde Alto with El Casar (Getafe), has again delayed its opening date: the weeks of heavy rains that the Community of Madrid has experienced during the month of March and the delays to execute a series of connections on the route have forced the authorities to announce that the works will be completed after Easter, and not before (as planned).
Although the subway work has already been completed, the connections of the Metrosur infrastructure (L12) with the new Line 3 infrastructure are still pending. These works are being carried out at night -between 2:00 and 5:00 hours- to avoid inconvenience to metro users. In addition, the days of precipitation have prevented the necessary changes to the surface from being made: maintenance still needs to be carried out on the outside of Getafe station.
It should be noted that the Line 3 extension project, started in 2022, has been delayed multiple times (in fact, the initial plan of the Community of Madrid was to finish it in 2023) due to technical problems such as water leaks or changes in excavation methods.
From the south of Madrid to the center in less than 40 minutes.
The extension of L3 provides a new alternative entrance to the metropolitan area of the capital. The inhabitants of Getafe, Alcorcón, Leganés, Móstoles and Fuenlabrada will benefit from this renovation: El Casar station will link Line 3 with MetroSur (L12), Renfe’s C-3 and buses 447, 448 and 488, making the south of Madrid more connected than ever with the center, reducing the journey from Getafe to Sol to around 35 minutes.
