Being as we are at the end of October, it seems anachronistic -even for Mariah Carey herself- to start talking about the Christmas lights of 2024 when the only thing (or almost the only thing) that can begin to refer us to that time of year is the drop in temperatures, the gradual appearance of Christmas sweets on the shelves of supermarkets … and, as some may have noticed, the installation of lighting for this year.
Ximénez Iluminaciones, the company in charge of this task, has been working on it since last August 2, according to statements made by one of its technicians to Telemadrid. That is why it is possible that night scenes have already been shot of his black vehicle with a small crane that allows operators to be placing the lighting.
And although Halloween has not even passed, there is no time to lose: next November 28 will be the official lighting of the lights, as confirmed by the City Council of Madrid.
The event will take place, as it happened last year, in Puerta del Sol and the person in charge of turning on the lights will be the national soccer coach Luis de la Fuente.
What will the Christmas lights of 2024 be like in Madrid?
According to the Madrid City Council, the lighting will return to more than 230 sites in the 21 districts of the capital and “will continue to be totally respectful of environmental sustainability” thanks to the use of LED bulbs.
On the other hand, the Consistory points out that the lighting “will bring many new features”. Among them, for example, that some of the designs that we will see illuminating the streets of the capital will be designed by children of first and second grade who entered the school contest organized by the City Council.
As usual, we will also see proposals from renowned designers and specialists, twelve large fir trees scattered throughout the main squares of the capital or the Great Christmas Ball in the Plaza de España. In total, the streets will be decorated with 7,100 chains, 121 cherry trees and a dozen large luminous fir trees, “in addition to other Christmas motifs” that we will discover as the holiday approaches.
