Madrid continues to invest in retail areas. Just a few days ago we announced the new LESÌX shopping center in the northwest of the region; now it’s the southeast’s turn. Located in the Vicálvaro district, the new El Cañaveral Retail Park promises to become one of the largest retail spaces in the capital.
Construction on the new complex began yesterday, April 27, and it will cover a total of 77,000 square meters dedicated to leisure and shopping. There will be more than 50 stores and space for 2,200 parking spaces, including 196 for motorcycles, with the goal of facilitating access for its customers.
The opening is scheduled for the 2027 holiday season, and some of the brands that will be present have already been confirmed. Among them are Urban Planet, McDonald’s, Mercadona, Lidl, Ahorramás, Ilusiona, Kiabi, and Planet Fitness.
An investment of over 100 million euros

Behind the new El Cañaveral shopping center is OMO Retail, a company specializing in real estate and retail that has allocated more than 100 million euros to the project.
According to its director, Juan Olivié, “it was conceived with the aim of becoming a commercial landmark for Madrid”and is envisioned with “a vision for the present and the future,” as he stated during the groundbreaking ceremony last Monday.
The complex will feature five distinct areas catering to different interests: food; DIY and auto repair; fashion, sports, and pets; home and dining; and leisure and sports. Additionally, 13 sports courts will be included, along with a dedicated space for paddle tennis.
Jobs and connections to Madrid

According to projections, the shopping center willcreate 1,500 direct and indirectjobs and generateannual revenue exceeding 11.5 million euros once the complex is fully operational.
The project responds to a long-standing demand from the local community and will also be located near new urban development projects, such as the developments in Los Berrocales, Los Ahijones, Valdecarros, and Los Cerros. As a result, the population of this area will be approximately 350,000 residents, who will become potential customers of the retail park.
Finally, its excellent connection to Madrid is a major plus, as it is located 20 minutes from downtown and 15 minutes from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. It has a direct connection to the R-3 and access to the A-2 and A-3 highways.
