For four days, the walled enclosure of Buitrago de Lozoya will be filled with craft stalls, music, performances, fantastical characters, jesters, acrobatics, and parades to celebrate the 24th Medieval Fair.
The event transforms the streets and squares of this historic town into a medieval fantasy setting from September 3 to 6. The market will be spread across locations such as Plaza del Gato, Plaza Picasso, Plaza del Castillo, and Plaza Angelines Paino, with family-friendly activities during the day and fire shows and nighttime entertainment after sunset.
The parade kicks off the festival
The Medieval Fair will kick off on Thursday , September 3, at 6:00 p.m. with the opening of the market. An hour later, at 7:00 p.m., the grand opening parade will begin, featuring musicians, jesters, and fantastical creatures.
The first night will continue with aerial acrobatics and fire shows in Plaza del Castillo, as well as musical performances and entertainment scattered throughout the market area. It’s a great way to kick off September with an afternoon and evening outing just over an hour from Madrid.
Dragons, fire, and jesters
On Friday, September 4, and Saturday, September 5, the program will begin at 11:00 a. m. In the mornings, there will be medieval music, storytelling, and characters roaming the streets, while the afternoons will feature entertainment, jesters, and theatrical performances.
Highlights include *El jorobado de No-me-dan*, *La captura del Dragón Rojo*, and concerts by Rebelión Brutal Folk. On Friday at 10:00 p.m., the diabolical parade *Demonium* will wind its way through the town; on Saturday, it will once again be part of the evening program, alongside aerial acrobatics and fire shows in Plaza del Castillo.
The festival will conclude on Sunday at 9:15 p.m. with a grand final parade featuring all the participants. It will be the last chance to bid farewell to the festival amid music, fantastical creatures, and entertainment, before Buitrago returns to its usual rhythm after four days of traveling back to the Middle Ages.
