From this very -and just released- month of August the routine gesture of taking out the transport card to validate a trip will be slightly different in Madrid as a result of the premiere of a new design of these titles, which had not changed since 2012.
The Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures, Jorge Rodrigo, has been in charge of unveiling the image of this new transport card, which is already on sale: “It is a much more modern card, much more dynamic and above all, also, a much more accessible card”, he said in statements to the media.
There are currently more than 33 million TTP units in circulation and, according to regional government data, an average of 1,800 are issued daily.
Different transport cards, different design

The redesign of the transport card affects its different modalities, so that several models can be found depending on the ticket in question.
The personal transport card (the one with a photograph), the multi card, the children’s card and the blue card share the same design, but differ in color: they go, respectively, from dark red (almost maroon) to a much lighter red and green -which was already typical of the children’s card, but has acquired another shade-. The same has happened in the case of the blue card.
As for the tourist card, it is still characterized by a photograph printed on it: it is a view of the façade of the Royal Palace at sunset. All of them also incorporate a new specific logo of the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM).
Where to get the transport cards with the new design?

The new transport cards can be obtained through the usual channels, such as the Internet application -they are delivered to the home address within a week- or through any of the Management Offices. The following offices are expected to be added to the existing ones:
- Atocha (in a temporary space while the works on line 11 last). It is expected to be operational before the end of the summer.
- Parla and Alcorcón (for the last four months of the year).
- Plaza Elíptica and Aranjuez interchange (from 2026).
What about the old TTP?
The TTP currently in operation can continue to be used normally.
New design in parallel with the digitalization of the season ticket.

In parallel to this novelty, the process of digitization of the transport network continues to advance so that these same cards that are now being renewed will one day cease to be necessary and can be carried on the mobile.
In this regard, a pilot test has been launched for users who wish to try an app that allows them to carry and use the season ticket in digital format. A reality that could be extended to the general public by the end of this year.
