Carrying the transport pass on the cell phone, instead of doing it in physical format, is getting closer to being a reality in the Madrid transport system. So much so that thousands of users will be able to digitize it before its use becomes widespread.
Specifically, 4,000 people will have the opportunity to try it out and give their opinion thanks to the pilot project that the Regional Transport Consortium of the Community of Madrid (CRTM) has launched for this purpose.
The app with which it will be possible to digitalize and recharge the Personal Public Transport Card (TTP Personal) is called MiTarjetaTransporte and with it, explains the CRTM, “you will only have to bring your mobile device close to the access or validation turnstile where you start your trip and access the corresponding public transport”.
Requirements to download the transport pass on the cell phone
First of all, it is essential to have a physical personal TTP -excluding users of the Tarjeta Infantil, Tarjeta Azul or Tarjeta con título anual-. This will be the card that will be digitized in the app.
In this pilot phase -which will last about 12 weeks-, the application will be compatible with all cell phones with Android 9.0 operating system (or later versions) with NFC. It will also be necessary to have Google Wallet installed, which is where the digitized card will be stored.

How to sign up for the mobile transit pass pilot test?
If you meet the above requirements, you can fill in this form to participate. Once you have done so, you will receive a confirmation of your application.
Once your application has been verified, you will receive an email from pruebaappcrtm@madrid.org with the download link and instructions on how to start using the application and digitizing the card.
When digitizing the Personal TTP you will not be able to continue using the physical card, but once the pilot project is finished you will be able to continue using the digitized card.
When will the transport pass be available on the cell phone for everyone?
After this trial period, the app is expected to be available to all travelers on the network in the last quarter of this year.
This is a further step in the digitization of the transport network, which in November 2024 already launched the use of the transport card on the cell phone for 10-trip tickets, tourist passes and the supplement to go to the airport.
In addition, since 2021 it has been possible to recharge the transport card via mobile devices.
