Carabanchel is currently one of the capital’s most vibrant cultural hubs, as evidenced by “Cruza Carabanchel,” the nine-day festival that will transform the district into a vast map of cultural creation and will run through October 4. Its fourth edition will bring together more than 100 events featuring music, theater, dance, visual arts, film, literature, crafts, design, and community activities spread across venues, galleries, bookstores, workshops, artists’ studios, streets, and squares throughout the neighborhood.
Organized by the Carabanchel Cultural District Association, the festival aims to highlight the spaces created by local residents. The program brings together public, private, independent, and community initiatives around a shared idea: exploring the district to discover the artists, collectives, and projects that make it one of Madrid’s most culturally vibrant neighborhoods.
A project that depends on people showing up

One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the Open Studios, which will open artists’ and creators’ workspaces to the public, along with five guided tours linking studios, galleries, and design projects. There will also be concerts at Gruta 77, family-friendly events at Sala Tarambana, and workshops at venues such as La Descentrada, Arcaduz Cerámica, and Fresca. La Nave, film screenings and discussions, exhibitions, talks, and literary activities at venues such as the Ana María Matute Library and Librería Derivas.
Highlights include a concert by Rodrigo Mercado at Gruta 77 on opening day; a screening of Carlos Saura’s *La caza*, followed by a film forum at La Sala Milagros; the discussion *Ibero-America and Carabanchel: Dialogues Through Design*, as part of the 2026 Ibero-American Design Biennial; and family-friendly shows such as *El eco del arrecife * and *Guau, el perro verde*. The program will conclude on October 4 with theater, dance, puppetry, and concerts by Reina Roja and The Same Way at Galería Nueva.
To make it easier to navigate the festival, the organizers have published an interactive map where you can locate participating venues, check the scheduled activities, and plan your visit by area. The tool is especially useful for organizing your own route through the neighborhood and combining several events in a single afternoon or day.
