It is called Villarubia de Santiago, is located in Toledo and is considered the oldest village in all of Castilla-La Mancha: its roots go back to the beginning of the 13th century, although there are findings of earlier settlements -from Prehistoric times-. And it is in this picturesque setting that its medieval market will take place this weekend.
On July 26 and 27, 2025, the Plaza de la Constitución of this town of just over 2,500 inhabitants -according to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute (INE)- will be filled with stalls, attractions, workshops and even a live uncle for the event.
Those who decide to make a summer getaway to the town from Madrid will have a journey of just over an hour by car.
What’s in the medieval market of Villarubia de Santiago?

The stalls of the medieval market are very varied: there will be costume jewelry, decorated tiles, wooden toys, sustainable mini-gardens, plants, minerals, macramé, music boxes or handmade pumpkins, among others.
On the gastronomic side, the offer ranges from giant and handmade sweets to caramel, ice cream, granita, coffee, cotton candy, sausages, Extremadura, sourdough bread, donuts, muffins, honey or pies.
To all this must be added the activities and animations with figures such as the jester and giant bubbles and face-painting workshops.

How to get to the medieval market by car?
To go from Madrid to Villarubia de Santiago by car you have to take the M-30, then the A-4 and the A-40 towards the N-400. There you have to take exit 194 to continue on the N-400 and go to carretera de Ocaña street to get to the Plaza de la Constitución.

What if I want to go by public transportation?

There is a bus line that directly connects Madrid with Villarubia de Santiago: the VAC 158 Madrid – Casas Ibáñez – Las Lagunas de Ruidera. It departs from the Estación Sur de Autobuses de Méndez Álvaro and you can check the frequency and timetables at this link.
This town of Toledo is included in the E2 fare zone, so to get there you can use the transport pass (as long as you have this fare loaded, which allows travel between this area and the Community of Madrid).
