Madrid’s architecture has a new home in the heart of the city. The Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM) and the Fundación Arquitectura have inaugurated the Galería de Arquitectura de Madrid, a new museum that was created with “the aim of creating a permanent exhibition space for the architecture of the Community of Madrid“.
Located in the Sala Mercadal of the headquarters of this institution (Calle de Hortaleza, 63), this space shows the evolution of Madrid’s architecture from its origins to the 21st century through models as well as graphic and bibliographic documents from the Historical Service and the COAM Library.
Topics such as heritage restoration, exhibition pavilions or the tradition of traveling as a fundamental part of the architect’s training -which in Spain was followed by figures of the caliber of Mercadal or Molezún- are collected in its Permanent Hall.
But it is not the only one: there is also a Temporary Hall that hosts (and will host in the future) periodic exhibitions that will give visibility to “the activity of architects and architectural firms, both nationally and internationally”.
The first of these, by the way, is dedicated to the 13 proposals admitted to the competition for the design of the Architecture Gallery itself. The winner was Mañana te lo devuelvo, a proposal by architect Ignacio Borrego Gómez-Pallete.
