A not very attentive eye could trace the origin of each piece of furniture in a visit to someone else’s house. Ikea has homogenized society and now it is rare who does not have a Kallax or Billy bookshelf in his house. Low-end furniture cheaper and of substantially worse quality than those that occupied the cubic meters of our parents’ homes that will now have a second life posed by Ikea.

The Swedish giant has launched Preowned, a platform only available in Oslo and Madrid that allows you to buy and sell second-hand products bought in the store. This trial period will run until December, when the next steps will be evaluated and decided.
.
Unlike other platforms such as Vinted or Wallapop, Preowned does not offer the possibility of sending the furniture in question to the buyer’s home, but will have to travel to the place from where it is sold.
Ikea’s intention with Preowned
“This was a dream we’ve been wanting to realize for some time. We’re at a point where we can do cooler, more advanced things. There is incredible confidence that the company will evolve in digital,” Ingka (Ikea’s main store operator) CEO, Jesper Brodin, told the English newspaper Financial Times.
The Swedish multinational says the reason for launching Preowned is to reduce the use of resources… and to contribute to the transition to a circular business.
