Reading connects us with the inner world of other people. Paradoxically, reading is the queen of solitary hobbies. That said: in Madrid there are all kinds of activities to share reflections and quotes from books. Among them, the monthly or weekly meetings of the book clubs.
This year a new concept for readers has been born: the reading parties or reading parties. Their function is to bring book lovers together in a space with a festive and relaxed atmosphere, share impressions about different authors and (why not?) have a drink in the meantime. In New York they have gone viral, and in Madrid they are becoming fashionable.
The first reading party in Madrid, at the Cervantes bookstore, was sold out. Its success shows the demand for activities to share cultural knowledge and connect people with similar tastes in an increasingly individualistic and digitalized world.
Infernales has just joined the initiative of parties for readers: a coffee bar in Malasaña that, since its inception, stands out for hosting cultural plans of all kinds. From exhibitions to language exchanges, as well as talks and music video shoots.
Infernales will organize its first reading party on Tuesday, April 1, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. There will be live music (soft, inviting conversation) and a bar with drinks (specialty coffee, soft drinks, wines and beers). The entrance fee is 5 euros and includes a drink at the bar.
To attend the party you have to register by sending a message to the organizers of the event via Instagram (the sooner you do it, the better: the event has a capacity of 20 people). As soon as the meeting begins, the organizers will make an introduction by way of welcome.
Then there will be 20 minutes of silent reading, to then make comments with the other attendees about what each one reads (for this activity it is essential to bring a book from home). As a final touch to the party, the organizers will propose a topic for discussion related to the world of reading. It certainly sounds like a golden opportunity to make reading friends.
