The bad weather that we have been registering for weeks is not only making it difficult for us to put on a good face -the ravages in the mood of those who are more accustomed to the dry land are reflected in a meme-, but officially the rains have already made history in the meteorology of the Community of Madrid. This is reflected in the figures, which yesterday broke the rainfall record for a month of March since we have records (1893).
The data, confirmed to El País by Cayetano Torres -from the Madrid delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet)-, indicate that at 15h yesterday the rain gauge of the Retiro accumulated 182.9 liters per square meter.
A record that leaves behind the previous record of March 2018, when 140.7 liters per square meter were recorded: 42.2 l/m² less than what the Madrid rain gauge has collected this time. The record has been broken, moreover, with 13 days left in the month, and with more rainfall forecast ahead we are beginning to approach figures like that of November 1997, when 198.4 l/m² was recorded.
The incessant rainfall has meant, throughout these weeks, the closure of some roads and the activation at various times of the yellow warning (the lowest) for rain.
