Following the tragedy of the Adamuz accident, in which 40 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured, thousands have been affected by the cancellation of high-speed rail service between Madrid and Andalusia. Renfe aims to resolve this situation starting Tuesday, January 20, with the launch of special services covering the route.
Renfe’s Alternative Transport Plan, as explained by the company itself, offers special services “between Madrid, Seville, and Malaga” and will combine the train journey with a road section between Cordoba and Villanueva de Cordoba.
This service will remain operational for as long as the suspension of service lasts—currently scheduled to end on February 2—and will operate using a single ticket that combines travel (including road transport) in both directions.
This ticket has a fixed price of €40 for complete journeys to Malaga and Seville and is only available in tourist class. Intermediate stations “maintain the corresponding price according to the distance traveled.”
The railway company has reiterated that this measure is designed to “ensure the mobility of passengers who must travel for strictly necessary reasons.”
