This Tuesday, January 14, 2025 dawns after an early morning that could become, according to forecasts by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the coldest so far this winter. So much so that in parts of our geography as the Community of Madrid have activated cold wave warnings, and is that our region has recorded tonight a minimum of -1.8 º C.
The early hours of Wednesday to Thursday is expected to be even colder, with the minimums touching -3ºC. Responsible for this generalized drop in the mercury is a mass of cold air from northern Europe. According to the information published by the agency, it is expected to leave widespread frost in the interior of the peninsula.
As far as Madrid is concerned, forecasts indicate that during the first hours of the day the minimum temperatures will be as follows:
- Sierra de Madrid-Madrid: -6 ºC.
- Metropolitan and Henares-Madrid: -4 ºC
- South, Vegas and West-Madrid: -7 ºC
What precautions should be taken during a cold wave?
The Community of Madrid provides the public with information about the Plan for Surveillance and Control of the Effects of Cold on Health and recommendations to prevent the risks of cold on health.
Among these guidelines to be taken into account are, for example, to keep a heat source on, keep warm, avoid standing still for a long time, be cautious with wood and gas stoves, avoid drinking alcohol, keep well informed about weather forecasts through official channels and breathe through the nose.
