Tapapiés is not the only event offering tapa and bottle for 3.50 euros. The Ruta de la Tapa de Torrejón de Ardoz is a less crowded alternative that celebrates its XVI edition from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 October.
During these four days, 49 locals in the city will offer the public their best gastronomic proposals, such as the potato omelette skewer with black pudding and caramelized onion, seafood shell au gratin or croquettes dubai, among others. The tapa alone costs 2 euros, while if accompanied with beer it costs 3 euros and if accompanied with wine or soft drink, 3.50 euros.
A commitment to local gastronomy
In this event, “Torrejón se desTapa” and brings to light the most original and delicious creations of its bars and restaurants. “It is one of our big bets to promote the hospitality of our city and with it I continue to implement my commitment to promote Torrejón as a tourist destination Ciudad de Moda,” explained the mayor, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, during the presentation of the Ruta de la Tapa.
7 Letters, Bocado del sur, Carpe diem, El fogón la Estrella, El zoquito, La cueva, Mi bendición y Triana are just some of the participating establishments . The complete list with the tapa offered by each one can be consulted in the official brochure.
Last year there were about 70,000 people consumed, as reported by the city council, which showed a good reception by the neighbors. In this edition they hope to keep it and have as main sponsor Estrella Galicia, a beer that will not only be protagonist as consumption, but will also be present in the awards received by the best tapa, the best establishment and the best jury.
A route and the prize for the best tapa
The jury of the Ruta de la Tapa de Torrejón are the customers themselves who can vote for their favorite. To do this they will have a rutero, in which each establishment will capture its own seal. For each tapa tasted, they must provide an overall rating, scoring it from 0 to 5 according to their presence, quality, preparation, originality and quantity.
The work of the popular jury will also be rewarded, as those who have at least 5 stamps on their route will be eligible to win five prizes. The first is two tickets for an experience for the WAH musical and gastronomic show, while the second is a dinner of up to 100 euros in any of the participating restaurants. The third, fourth and fifth prizes will be awarded by Estrella Galicia, which will provide a batch of its products.
Finally, the best establishment will be awarded a trip for two to Galicia, including a visit to the brewery and the Estrella Galicia Mega museum. The second and third place winners will also receive a selection of Estrella Galicia products.
When and how to attend
The XVI Ruta de la Tapa de Torrejón de Ardoz will begin on Thursday, October 16 at 20:00 hours, remaining open until 23:00 hours. During the weekend, the schedule will be extended, opening on Friday and Saturday from 13:00 to 17:00 hours and from 20:00 to 00:00 hours. On Sunday it will only be open from 12:00 to 17:00 hours.
To get to Torrejón de Ardoz there are several public transport options, as well as a route by car. The town is located 20 kilometers east of Madrid and you can take a direct exit from the A-2. In the case of the commuter train, you can take lines C2 and C7. Another option is bus 224 from Avenida de América, which reaches the city in approximately 40 minutes.
