Organizing a school excursion is no easy task: you have to set dates, find transportation, fill out authorizations… and, above all, entertain a group of kids with more energy than a cup of black coffee. For this reason, we have gathered the best school plans in Madrid (and surrounding areas), designed to learn outside the classroom without losing your mind in the attempt.
1. We call it
If you are looking for an original excursion for children, We call it is the perfect place. Artistic live music and dance shows that encourage imagination and foster interest in the arts. Ideal for school groups or outings with little ones, here they can explore, experiment and have fun in a safe and stimulating environment.
2. Neon Brush Kids
Staining makes children and adults happy in almost any circumstance. But at Neon Brush Kids it’s done in a justified way and with glow-in-the-dark paint. This is not an art class, it’s a great plan for the whole class.
It’s an artistic experience where every student can let their creativity run wild with brushes, stencils and neon color. An extracurricular or just a different outing. And yes, you can take your artwork home as a souvenir… or trophy.
📍 Location: Calle de Fernández de la Hoz, 52 (Chamberí)
3. Environmental education centers in the Community of Madrid

4. Royal Collections Gallery
Hundreds of works are stored in this space that traces centuries of history through art, architecture and objects of royal heritage. The museography is modern, visual and perfect for engaging students of all levels. For more information about group reservations, click here.
📍 Location: Cuesta de la Vega, s/n (Downtown)
5. Royal Palace of Madrid
A visit to the Royal Palace is an opportunity for students of all ages to learn how monarchs lived, understand the evolution of the monarchy and power in Spain, and tour historic halls full of symbolism and jewels! But we are not talking about diamonds, but about those wonders that are a pleasure to see: furniture, clocks, tapestries and details. You can request a quote for groups at this link.
📍 Location: Calle de Bailén, s/n (Downtown)
6. San Lorenzo de El Escorial Monastery
This imposing architectural complex is much more than a monastery: it was a royal residence, pantheon, library, school and center of political and religious power. Its historical and artistic value is such that, despite being an hour from the center of Madrid (perhaps a little less), it is well worth a school visit, which can be adapted to different ages. This complex touches everything: art, philosophy, religion… and more. See information on group reservations here.
📍 Location: Av. de Juan de Borbón y Battemberg, s/n (San Lorenzo de El Escorial)
7. Factory of sweets FIESTA
You are not a Madrilenian if you were not taken to the sweets factory Fiesta when you were a child. Although you don’t visit the factory itself, the tour of its visitor center is a classic among schools: an educational and sweet plan in equal parts.
They explain how their most iconic candies are made and you feel like you are in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for a day. Of course, you have to book well in advance: it is a very popular visit.
📍 Location: Carretera de Madrid a Barcelona, km 27,5 (Alcalá de Henares)
8. National Archaeological Museum
From Egyptian mummies to Roman mosaics, this museum traces the history of humanity through fascinating objects. Visits for school groups are designed through workshops to work on the contents of History and Social Sciences subjects.
In addition, since February 11, this work by Antonio López has been incorporated into the museum’s permanent collection and will always be worth a visit.
There are also many other temporary exhibitions open throughout the city, you just have to find the one that fits the topic you want to discuss with your group.
📍 Location: Calle de Serrano, 13 (Salamanca)
9. Europa Park
This open-air park reproduces some of Europe’ s most emblematic monuments, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Atomium or the Brandenburg Gate. It is quite a fun way to introduce or review geography, history and general European culture without leaving Madrid.
It must be said, in Madrid we are well served with beautiful parks. So as long as the weather permits, making outdoor plans in one of Madrid’s parks will be one of the best options for a more relaxed school day.
📍 Location: Paseo de los Cipreses, s/n (Torrejón de Ardoz)
10. CaixaForum Madrid
A cultural center that mixes temporary exhibitions of art, science, archeology and design with interactive workshops designed for school children. Its didactic approach and age-appropriate programming make it a perfect visit for learning outside the classroom.
📍 Location: Paseo del Prado, 36 (Downtown)
11. Prado National Museum
One of the best art galleries in the world and a unique resource for learning history, art and culture. School visits allow you to visit masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya or El Bosco with adapted explanations.
📍 Location: Calle de Ruiz de Alarcón, 23 (Downtown)
12. Mercamadrid
The new generations don’t even know how to order steaks at the butcher’s. What will become of us? A visit to Mercamadrid is an urgent and necessary lesson about food, responsible consumption and how the largest food distribution market in the country works.
Here children learn where what we eat comes from, how prices are negotiated and what it means to pay a fair price, both for the producer and the consumer. Just call (with some advance notice) and it is very easy to organize.
📍 Location: Av. Madrid, 3B, Centro Administrativo (Vallecas)
13. Mint Museum
It rose to fame thanks to La Casa de Papel ( although in the series the real building did not appear) but, obviously, its history goes far beyond the red monkey and the masks of Dalí. In fact, the hook of the series is ideal for capturing the attention of children and teenagers from minute one.
What’s going on there? That’s the question we all want to know… and that is answered in your school visits. Coins, banknotes, stamps, security and technology, all explained in an entertaining and visual way.
📍 Location: Calle de Jorge Juan, 106 (Barrio de Salamanca)
14. Kitchen Academy
It’s not all about museums here: children also have to get into the kitchen (literally) to learn, have fun and, incidentally, understand what it means to eat well. At Kitchen Academy they adapt the activities for all ages and combine basic techniques with nutrition and teamwork.
📍 Location: Calle de Dolores Ibárruri, 21 (Alcobendas)
