There is a municipality in the Community of Madrid that has, during these days, a little piece of sea: it is Colmenar Viejo and the occasion that makes it possible is the celebration of its Seafood Fair, which can be visited until Sunday, October 13.
The event, underway since last September 26, is held on the Esplanade of the bullring of the municipality and the entrance is completely free.
Those who come there will be able to taste the best of Galician gastronomy and that includes, of course, the central axis of the fair: seafood. To mention some of the products, the list includes mussels, crab, clams, shrimps, barnacles, barnacles, zambuñas, seafood rice…. And, of course, octopus.
Beyond seafood
But this fair is not only focused on seafood: among the typical products on offer there are also wines (Albariño, Mencía, Ribeiro…), liqueurs (such as coffee liqueur and herb liqueur), sweets (such as Santiago cake or bica, a buttery sponge cake) and even Galician meat.
On the other hand, for those who want to take a little bit of Galicia home with them, there is also a store with typical Galician products.
Opening hours of the Seafood Fair of Colmenar Viejo
The Seafood Fair of Colmenar Viejo opens on the following schedule:
- Mornings: from 13h to 16h.
- Afternoons: from 19h to 23h
In case you can not come to Colmenar Viejo for the fair, another option -which is not subject to any particular date- is to go to one of the Galician restaurants in Madrid: in this list we compile some of our favorites, where there are both traditional and more avant-garde recipes but always with very good product.
