SIX, the musical—one of the shows that has played on Broadway and in London’s West End—will arrive at Madrid’s Teatro Gran Vía on September 12 with a Spanish-language production that will run through November 8.
The premise is quickly established: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr become six pop singers and compete on stage to determine which of them suffered the most during her marriage to Henry VIII. The format is closer to a concert than to a conventional historical musical: microphones in hand, a live band, and solo numbers in which each queen tells her own story.
The show arrives in Madrid following an international run backed by two Tony Awards—including Best Original Score—and more than 5.5 billion cumulative streams on digital platforms. Its debut on Gran Vía will feature another unique aspect: it will be a replica production of the original West End version, but performed entirely in Spanish.
From the Tudor court to 2010s pop
The story of Henry VIII is usually summarized around the monarch himself and a succession of marriages, divorces, annulments, and executions. SIX shifts the focus. Here, it is the women who drive the narrative, and the king is reduced practically to the reason that brings them together.
The idea of its creators, Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, is to use recognizable elements of contemporary pop to distinguish the protagonists. The songs and stage personas draw inspiration from artists of the 2010s such as Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Adele, Avril Lavigne, and Alicia Keys.
This shift in style allows events that took place five centuries ago to be told through a musical battle filled with humor and irony. Each wife tries to prove that her story was the worst, transforming a rather dark chapter of the Tudor court into a series of songs structured like a pop concert.
The show runs about 80–85 minutes with no intermission, a particularly compact format compared to the large-scale musical productions that typically fill the theaters on Gran Vía.
Who will play the six queens in Madrid?
The Spanish production will be led by Clara Lanzani, who will play Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s first wife. Udara Zubillaga will take on the role of Anne Boleyn; Beatriz Santana, that of Jane Seymour; Liz Tatis, that of Anne of Cleves; Arianna Galletti, that of Catherine Howard; and Alba Egilo, that of Catherine Parr.
The cast is rounded out by Clara Rengel, Bárbara Sanches, and Flor Lopardo as alternating leads.
Dates, showtimes, and tickets for SIX in Madrid
The premiere is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Teatro Gran Vía, where it will remain on the program through November 8.
Performances will take place Tuesday through Friday at 8:00 p.m. On Saturdays, there will be two shows, at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., while on Sundays, performances will be at 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Tickets start at 25 euros, and the show is recommended for all audiences.
