The 2026–2027 school year now has a start date: students at the region’s various public schools and educational levels will return to the classroom in stages between September 7 and 21, with a calendar that will be particularly generous this year in terms of the Christmas break.
The school break for these holidays will begin on Christmas Eve, December 23, and would normally last until Three Kings Day: January 6, 2027.
However, January 7 and 8, 2027, have been designated as non-school days, and since they fall on a Thursday and Friday, the break will continue through that weekend until students return to school on Monday, January 11, 2027.
As a result, students will enjoy a total of 19 consecutive days off from school leading up to Christmas.
All non-school days for the 2026–2027 school year
- Monday, October 12, 2026: Spain’s National Holiday.
- Monday, November 2, 2026: All Saints’ Day holiday is rescheduled.
- Monday, December 7, 2026: no school.
- Tuesday, December 8, 2026: Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
- Thursday, January 7, 2027: no school.
- Friday, January 8, 2027: no school.
- Friday, February 12, 2027: non-school day.
- Monday, February 15, 2027: non-school day.
- Friday, March 19, 2027: non-school day.
- Monday, March 29, 2027: no school.
With the calendar set up this way, another of the year’s major vacation periods coincides with Holy Week: it will take place from Saturday, March 20, through Sunday, March 28, 2027, including the non-school days (March 19 and 29).
In addition to these non-school days, there are also the two local holidays established by each municipality.
