From Vallecas to the Salamanca neighborhood: summer movie screenings know no district boundaries in Madrid, and although they may not be as well-known as other options like Cibeles de Cine or Fescinal, the municipal open-air movie theaters offer a wide range of free films so that residents can spend their summer nights enjoying a good movie.
The event isn’t just affordable—it’s also designed to appeal to all kinds of audiences: from the youngest viewers with films like *Buffalo Kids*, *Paddington in the Jungle*, and *How to Train Your Dragon* to 2026 Goya Award-nominated films such as *Romería*, *Sirat*, and *Los domingos*—a perfect opportunity for those who missed them at the time to see them on the big screen.
In other districts, such as Arganzuela, the lineup is themed, and all the films—screened between July 2 and 25— are musicals from throughout history: from classics like *Grease* to modern musicals like *La La Land* or recent adaptations such as *Wicked*.
Admission to these summer movie screenings is free until capacity is reached, and some venues—such as the one in the Barajas district—even include free popcorn.

Free Summer Movies at Libraries in Madrid
In addition to the outdoor screenings, two municipal libraries are also hosting summer film programs: the José Hierro Library in San Blas-Canillejas (July 2–August 7) and the David Gestau Library in the Salamanca neighborhood (July 1–August 31).
The first will screen films for all ages Tuesday through Friday at 5:00 p.m. , and the second will offer family movie screenings Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The schedule can be found in the “Summer Movies at Libraries” section of the website mentioned above.
