The 2025 work calendar brings with it a small gift for the inhabitants of Madrid: the local holiday of the Almudena will be moved to Monday, November 10, since the official day, the 9th, coincides this year with a Sunday. This modification will allow many Madrilenians to enjoy a long weekend in the middle of autumn, a welcome opportunity after the return from the summer vacations and the return to routine.
The proposal was advanced months ago by the government team of the City Council, led by José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and responds to a usual strategy: to adjust the local festivities when they fall on a Sunday so as not to lose a potential day of rest. This decision, far from being exceptional, follows a logic of conciliation between respect for traditions and taking advantage of the working calendar.
A decision that combines tradition and rest

The Virgin of Almudena, patron saint of Madrid, is celebrated every November 9 with religious and cultural events that take place at the cathedral of the same name, in front of the Royal Palace.
In previous years, when this date fell on a weekend, its transfer had already been considered to ensure an effective holiday. In 2025, the City Council has decided to apply this criterion once again, providing the people of Madrid with a day of rest after the weekend.
All remaining holidays in the capital
The Almudena holiday will not be the only day marked in the 2025 calendar, but it will be one of the few. This year’s calendar includes some of its holidays on Saturdays -such as October 12, November 1 or December 6. And none of them, except for the Almudena and in the case of Madrid, are moved to the following days.
Therefore, the only holidays that remain in Madrid are the aforementioned November 10, December 8 (Immaculate Conception Day) and December 25 (Christmas).
