Bus line 56 of the Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT), created in 1965, is extending its route with nine new intermediate stops. This extension, which according to the Madrid City Council responds to neighborhood demands, extends the route of this line to the Doña Carlota Market in the Numancia neighborhood.
Thus, the line that until now was called Diego de León-Puente de Vallecas is renamed Diego de León-Numancia. In practical terms, this means that many users of this transport service will now be spared the transfer they had to make at Puente de Vallecas.
In addition, with this change in the bus route, passengers will be able to reach Gregorio Marañón Hospital and Beata María Ana Hospital directly, “as well as other key points in the city such as Plaza de Manuel Becerra and the Goya shopping area,” according to the city council.
Where are the new stops on the extended L56 bus route?

The extended route of the L56 (Diego de León-Numancia) runs along Avenida de Peña Prieta, turning onto Calle Alfonso XIII and Calle Santa Marta until it reaches its new terminus (the newly created stop no. 51,260), located next to the Doña Carlota Market, specifically on Calle Doctor Lozano.
Four stops are added to this route in the Numancia direction—4,325, 1,980, 5,540, and 5,541— which coincide with EMT Madrid lines 8 and 113.
In the opposite direction (Diego de León), the L56 will take Calle de la Sierra Toledana, Camino de Valderribas, and Avenida de Peña Prieta, passing through Puente de Vallecas. The route then continues along Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona, following its usual itinerary.
With this extension, five more stops are added in this direction: 3,331, 3,316, 3,329, 1,981, and 1,979,which coincide with EMT Madrid line 141.
On the other hand, according to the Madrid City Council, the service on this line will be reinforced with three buses on weekdays and one bus on weekends to maintain the usual frequency as before.
