This Thursday the deputy mayor and municipal spokeswoman, Inmaculada Sanz, announced at the press conference after the Governing Board that the Madrid City Council has given the green light to the rehabilitation of the Tirso de Molina square. The works, to be carried out by the Department of Works and Equipment of the Madrid City Council, will involve an investment of three million euros and will also affect part of the surroundings of this enclave.
The works include, among other actions, “the removal of architectural barriers, the elimination of cul-de-sacs and unsafe spaces and the renovation of street furniture and children’s playgrounds“.
The surrounding streets that will be affected by the remodeling will be Doctor Cortezo, Conde de Romanones, Colegiata and Concepción Jerónima. The intervention, according to the City Council, is intended to “organize mobility and create new bus stops to decongest the Tirso de Molina and Jacinto Benavente squares”.
A Tirso de Molina square with more greenery
The main objective of the rehabilitation is to “make this environment a more habitable space” and, for this, one of the key actions will be the environmental improvement of the space with the planting of 46 trees and more than 2,500 shrubs.
In addition, there will be a rearrangement of the elements of the square, the lighting and irrigation will be renewed and the current prefabricated paving stones will be replaced by granite ones.
In the surrounding streets, the roadway and sidewalk pavement will be renewed and the width of the sidewalks will be increased to give back the space to pedestrians.
With all this it is intended that after the rehabilitation of the Tirso de Molina square this area will be recovered “as a safe and environmentally adapted public space for the stay of neighbors and visitors”.
