This Saturday, October 25th, the Railway Museum of Madrid (Paseo de las Delicias, 61) will be celebrating the Train Day: an event that commemorates the inauguration of the first peninsular railroad, the Barcelona-Mataro line, in October 1848.
For the visiting public, the event translates into a day marked by a program that, among other attractions, includes free admission to the museum or access to the interior of several trains of the permanent exhibition “that are not usually open to the public”, according to the museum.
Also, guided tours are planned to present the history of the Delicias station, home of the Museum, as well as an important role of model railroads both in the room dedicated to the museum and through Forotrenes modules and the Association of Friends of the Railway of Madrid.
Among the most outstanding examples is the largest railway model of Spain: Territorio ferroviario. The magic of the train. It was made by the Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX) in 1998, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the Railway in our country.
More activities: from children’s theater to train rides.

In addition to all the above activities, which are free, there are other paid activities such as trips on the tracks outside the museum aboard the 9121 ‘Zaragoza’ railcar or the option to take a ride on the Garden Train of the Círculo Madrileño Ferroviario -whose schedules you can check at this link-.
The program is completed with a children’s musical theater and several food trucks where you can get your strength back with a drink. As a souvenir, in addition, commemorative tickets and cut-out trains for the little ones (while stocks last) will be distributed free of charge among the attendees.

Tickets

To attend the Train Day celebration it is not necessary to reserve a ticket, but those who wish to do so can do so through this link. Doing so has an advantage: people who register will participate in a raffle for a trip aboard the Strawberry Train on November 2, 2025.
The trip includes a visit to a winery, tasting and early music concert, plus an afternoon visit to the gardens. The draw will take place on October 27 at 3 pm and the rules can be consulted here.
The Doctor Zhivago exhibition

In parallel, the Railway Museum is hosting a photographic exhibition until October 28 about the shooting of the film Doctor Zhivago, with images of both the Delicias station itself (where part of the film was developed) and other locations including the neighborhood of Canillas.
The Renfe-Simulators Room can also be visited from 10:00 to 14:30 and from 15:30 to 18:30 to live the experience of being a train driver.
