Fireworks are believed to have been discovered in the Han Dynasty (more than 2,000 years ago). They began to be used for recreational and spiritual purposes until they became fully integrated into Chinese culture. In Madrid, to celebrate the Spring Festival, Pradolongo Park is hosting a show full of light and color to attract good luck and ward off evil spirits in 2025: an ideal event to open the door to a new beginning among friends and family.
The display of lights in the air will take place on Rafaela Ybarra Avenue on Saturday, February 1. It will last 15 minutes (from 8:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.) and will be completely free of charge. As this year is the year of the Wood Snake, symbol of the continuous resurrection of nature, the fireworks show will be full of references to this zodiacal sign.
Best locations to see the fireworks in the park
As the main avenue of the park and its central hill are expecting hundreds of visitors on the day of the fireworks, it is recommended to choose one of these privileged corners to see the show with more space:
📍 Pradolongo Lake. The reflection of the lights on the water always has a special effect.
📍 David González Rubio Field. It provides a complete view of the show.
How to get to Pradolongo
You can get to Avenida Rafaela Ybarra by public transport: by suburban train, line 5 to the Doce de Octubre stop (nine minutes from the park), by bus, lines 6, 60, 78, 81, 85 and 148, and by metro, getting off at Hospital 12 de Octubre (line 3), which is a 10-minute walk away (one kilometer).
More Chinese New Year activities
The New Year of the Snake will fill the capital with activities starting next week: there will be gastronomic events to celebrate the Spring Festival with a good menu, parades inspired by traditional Chinese parades and even dance and handicraft workshops. A great opportunity to immerse yourself in the oriental customs that will transform Madrid for two weeks.
