According to Pedro Almodóvar “being the first witnesses of a miracle on the screen” is one of the greatest privileges of film directors. He knows it well. After a best screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival with his (now cult) Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, an Oscar for best foreign film with the iconic All About My Mother and dozens of other awards, Almodóvar has just won a dazzling León de Oro withThe Next Room, his new masterpiece shot in Madrid.
With this achievement, the director from La Mancha shows he has a real gift for identifying those miracles that thrill critics and audiences, who can now enjoy the best films of Almodóvar in Madrid at the Centro Cultural de Conde Duque.
From Tuesday, September 10 to Saturday, October 19, the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea (calle del Conde Duque, 11) will host a cycle of 14 works directed by Almodóvar. The screenings will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:00 pm. And the best part: entry is free until full capacity is reached.
The cycle will begin with La ley del deseo, one of Pedro Almodóvar’s first films. After the screening there will be a discussion with the participation of Agustín Almodóvar, brother of the director and producer of his best works.
An exhibition for Almodóvar fans
The small cinema of the cultural center will share space with the exhibition Madrid, chica Almodóvar, which takes a tour of the Madrid settings of twenty-three of the director’s films. It features 200 photographs that show the evolution of the capital from the 1980s until now.
