In 2025, budgetary attention is directed to the Centro district. There will be reforms in six squares in mythical neighborhoods, including Tirso de Molina and Matute. The latter, the former whereabouts of Cervantes and Becquer, connects Huertas and Atocha in a spot full of bars and old-fashioned stores.
The Madrid City Council has announced that both Matute square and its surroundings (Plaza del Angel and the streets of Espoz y Mina, Huertas and La Cruz) will undergo a remodeling to “remove existing architectural barriers in curbs, steps and other obstacles”, as reported by the area of Works and Equipment.
The works will start at the end of February and will be finished before the end of the year. The main reform to be carried out will be the replacement of the current pavement for one with more planters and green spaces: it is planned that up to 20 trees will be planted.
Espoz y Mina street will have a design that will serve as a continuation of the remodeling project to be carried out in Puerta del Sol. Calle de la Cruz will have a new granite roadway, as will Calle Huertas and Plaza del Ángel.

All the renovated spaces will continue to house the granite inscriptions so typical of the Barrio de las Letras, with phrases of famous writers who lived there between the 16th and 17th centuries.
