Less ephemeral, but more Ephemeral than ever. It may seem a contradiction, but it is not: the festival that every year since 2019 brings together the best emerging and independent publishers in Spain, celebrates a new edition premiering a new format -of three days instead of one- that will allow it to deploy as never before its “commitment to maintain curiosity and promote unconventional literary bets within the book market and state publishing”, as they define it in a press release about the event.
The event will take place between Friday, May 10 and Sunday, May 12 and will be hosted by Arganzuela the event will be held at the Auditorium of the Casa del Lector in Madrid (Paseo de la Chopera, 14).
More than 60 publishers are listed there -you can consult the complete list at this link– who will carry their respective catalogs: novels, essays, comics, poetry, children’s and young adult books, fanzines, literary magazines… In parallel, there will also be time for activities and author signings.
Efímera Festival activities and signings
The program prepared by the Ephemeral Festival is designed for all audiences and tastes, so it will be possible to attend activities as diverse as poetry readings, round tables, storytelling or cover designs.
The star of the festival, facilitated by Generación X, will be Beto Hernández -author of renowned American underground comic sagas such as Love & Rockets or Palomar-, who will be interviewed by Elisa McCausland.
On the other hand, there will also be numerous author signings, among them: Beatriz G. Villota, Marina Kaysen, Guglielmo Foffani, Tatee, Oti Corona or Fernando Ontañón, to mention just a few examples. The complete program is available on the Ephemeral website.
Prizes, gifts and book recycling
Festival attendees will also be eligible to win gifts. For example: for the purchase of 3 books the gift (while stocks last) is a tote bag illustrated by Laura Pérez -the Valencian who has illustrated the header of the series Only murders in the building-.
Four golden tickets will also be hidden among the books scattered among the stands. If you buy one and find it inside, you can redeem it for a prize at the Ephemeral Table.
And in the event that someone needs to make room on the shelf to place their new acquisitions, they can bring the books they no longer want to the festival and the NGO Let it go Sustainable will take care of recycle them.
