In Madrid, Christmas markets are not only related to toys, ornaments and other possible gifts to put under the tree when the Three Kings arrive, but also to a gastronomic offer of the most appetizing when temperatures drop: roasted chestnuts, hamburgers, hot dishes typical of the city and, of course, Christmas sweets.
The Nuevos Ministerios market, organized by El Corte Inglés de la Castellana, brings together all of the above and more. The stalls and food trucks incorporated this year range from gourmet street food to chocolate churros, making the space an eye-catching gastro route.
The stars of the Nuevos Ministerios street market.
Dabiz Muñoz’s stall
Since winning three consecutive World’s Best Chef awards at The Best Chef Awards, Dabiz Muñoz has not stopped reinventing himself. One of his street food projects, Pollos Muñoz, has arrived on the market to offer Michelin-starred dishes at affordable prices. The highlights of the menu are in the hamburger section, with unique fusions of flavors and an international touch.
Classics that never fail
The bet for the “castizo” is materialized in the stand that El Brillante has here. This business founded in the fifties prepares the reference calamari sandwiches in the capital, and has not hesitated to bring them to the market.
Another classic proposal is that of Arzábal, with its Iberian ham croquettes, patatas bravas and Madrid stew broth, dishes that can be completed with a good glass of mulled wine (or glühwein).
The sweetest corners
The market hosts stalls with top-notch sweet snacks. Balbisiana, the trend-setting pastry shop in the Almagro district, has a small space here with cakes and truffles. Also the chocolate shop with the most famous churros in Madrid, San Ginés has brought its emblematic dessert.
As it could not be missing at Christmas, the best roscón de Reyes is brought by the Pan.Delirio bakery. They are completely handmade and limited production, so it is worth (and much) worth going to try them.
