To solve GPS navigation problems in the M-30 tunnels, the Madrid City Council has begun installing electronic beacons that will help drivers find their way around via Google Maps and the Waze application. They will be placed at a distance of approximately 20 to 40 meters from each other to ensure smooth and accurate navigation.
The initiative aims to make driving easier for those who are not used to driving on the underground part of the M-30 ring road. The system will improve the reception of real-time information on traffic, detours and possible incidents inside the tunnels.
The installation work, with a budget of 141,000 euros, is expected to be completed during the coming summer, allowing thousands of drivers to benefit from the new system before the end of the year.
More projects on the M-30 by 2025
The M-30 is in the spotlight for the undergrounding that will cover 820 meters of the road. The new tunnel, to be completed in 2027, will connect the area around the five towers and La Paz Hospital with the former EMT colony and Madrid Nuevo Norte.
