The prices of Madrid’s transport season tickets in 2025 have yet to be confirmed. From 2022, the Government of Spain and the Community of Madrid have funded these well-known unlimited travel cards at 60%, which has considerably reduced the travel costs of those who use public transport every day to get around the capital.
Despite the significant advantages of the discount, the Metro extensions and the works that the city will undergo before 2030, the approval of a budget for a new major financing of travel cards was not clear. In fact, the Regional Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo, stated on Friday 8 March for Executive Forum España that the current model of subsidies “is unsustainable”, since “it is detrimental to the quality of the service” and “limits the planned investments”.
However, as confirmed by the Ministry of Transport to Madrid Secreto, “the Community of Madrid is waiting for the decision of the central government to determine whether it will maintain in 2025 the subsidy for public transport, and the intention is to maintain the subsidies if the Central Government maintains them“.
If it remains the same, this means that the Ministry of Transport and the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso will contribute in total the 60% necessary -30%each part- for the Youth Pass to continue costing 8€ per month (without discount, its value was 20€) and being free for those over 65 years old -although this is independent of the applied bonus.
