The arrival of summer is often used as an opportunity to carry out improvement projects on services such as the subway—taking advantage of lower ridership and demand—and these summer months will be no exception: Metro de Madrid has announced the closure of several sections of different lines on the network between July and September.
These works are intended to “enhance safety, reliability, and service quality,” according to the company, and will require temporary service interruptions on various sections of lines 6, 7, and 9B (TFM).
The first service suspensions will affect Line 9B (operated by Transportes Ferroviarios de Madrid until 2030), where service will be suspended between the Arganda del Rey and Rivas Vaciamadrid stations from July 25 to August 13.
Another station affected by the closures will be Moncloa, where service on Line 6 between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria will be suspended from August 1 through September 2. The same will apply to Line 7 between the Estadio Metropolitano and Pitis stations from August 2 through August 28.
The partial closure of Line 10
In addition to these partial closures, there is the one already underway on Line 10, as part of the comprehensive renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu station.
From July 4 through the end of August, the closure also affects the Cuzco station, meaning that service will be suspended between the stations at Nuevos Ministerios and Plaza de Castilla.
Free replacement service during construction
To minimize the inconvenience these closures will cause passengers, the regional government has stated that, in all cases, it will provide free replacement bus services to cover the affected routes and ensure the mobility of metro riders.
