For yet another year, the Government has approved a direct aid plan for six public universities in Madrid. The initiative has been taken in order to guarantee equal opportunities for the students of these educational centers.
The recipients of the aid will be students enrolled in one of the beneficiary universities -the Complutense, the Autónoma, the Carlos III, the Rey Juan Carlos I, the Politécnica and the Alcalá- who are in an unfavorable economic situation. This year, priority will be given to those who have not been able to receive the central government scholarship.
In the case of undergraduate students, the aid will cover a maximum of the amount it costs to enroll for the second time in all the subjects of a complete course, according to the fees established by the corresponding university. For those who wish to study a master’s degree, the amount to be received will not exceed 2,100 euros.
Each public university will open a call for applications in which students can apply for the aid. In addition to covering the cost of tuition, this grant can be used for other needs, such as covering mobility expenses for students of the Spanish University Center Exchange System (SICUE).
In total, the Community of Madrid has invested 6,000,000 million euros in this plan, which could benefit 5,500 students. The public universities that have benefited most from the grant program have been the Politécnica (1,005,607€), the Rey Juan Carlos I (1,293,566€) and the Complutense (1,755,375€).
