MADRING is already a reality. The new circuit of the capital, located in the surroundings of IFEMA and with part of urban layout, will host its first Formula 1 Grand Prix next year. It will be the weekend of September 11-13, 2026.
The news comes from the official Formula 1 account, which has shared the calendar for the 2026 edition of its championship. There will be 24 races in this edition, two in our country: the brand new one in Madrid and the other one in the usual Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Montmeló). Thus, the Spanish Grand Prix of 2026 will be two.
This Formula 1 GP in MADRING means the return of Madrid to the front line of motor racing after 45 years of absence. 1981 was the last year in which Madrid hosted a Grand Prix, at the Jarama Circuit (San Sebastián de los Reyes), which had been the only Spanish venue for this competition for 6 years (previously it had been alternating with the Montjuic circuit in Barcelona).
In addition to the Jarama Circuit, Madrid had previously hosted the F1 Grand Prix in other of its circuits. Thus, the first Spanish Grand Prix was held in 1913 near the city, at the extinct Guadarrama Circuit. However, the current denomination would not arrive until 1923, so it would be considered an unofficial race.
A definitive date with a “but”
Although the date of September 11 to 13 is closed, it must be taken into account that MADRING must still receive homologation from the FIA, the entity that organizes the F1 world championship. They must confirm that MADRING meets all the conditions to host an F1 GP. With one year to go, the circuit has enough time to prepare for this great event.
Although MADRING’s first official race will be in 2026, part of the circuit has already been seen in action at events such as An Afternoon in MADRING, held last Saturday, June 7. In this event, F1 driver Carlos Sainz, together with other drivers, toured part of the circuit’s layout.
This roadshow was a spectacle that brought together some 80,000 motor fans, who in addition to seeing Sainz and company burning wheel could enjoy various activities.
