In Madrid in May we live outdoors, and although the main reason is the celebration of some of our most important festivals (the past May 2 and San Isidro) there are other arguments that bring us out into the street. One of them takes the form of a street market and will celebrate its May edition this Saturday the 10th: it is the Mercado de las Ranas (Frog Market).
Located in Huertas street, a unique location in the neighborhood of Las Letras, its open and neighborhood character is one of its main hallmarks in the eyes of Begoña Perlines, manager of the Association of Traders of the Barrio de las Letras, responsible for organizing the street market.
“Something that characterizes it is also the type of product we have, which is a quality handmade product; charming artisans and a wide variety of offer. There is everything and for all audiences,” he told us during an interview on Hoy por Hoy Madrid on Cadena SER.
Among these items you can find fashion, accessories, illustration, gastronomy, natural cosmetics, jewelry and decoration. Oh, and in case anyone is curious about the origin of its name, we explain it here.
Second date of the Frog Market in May
In case you can’t make it this weekend, there will be a second opportunity to visit the Mercado de las Ranas this month. It will be on Saturday May 24 at the same time: from 12h to 20h.
Cacharrería Fair
On the occasion of the San Isidro festivities, the Plaza de las Comendadoras will host the 43rd edition of this fair, which brings together handcrafted pieces and also has activities. You can find more information here.
Popular pottery is also the focus of the exhibition Alma de Cántaro, at Casa Cervantes in Alcalá de Henares.
