Madrid’s commuter rail network continues to expand and grow: following the announcement a few weeks ago of the construction of two new stations in Las Rejas and Campo de las Naciones, the Spanish Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) has just put out a tender for the construction of a new station north of the Madrid municipality of Tres Cantos, with a budget of 23 million euros.
The new station, which is part of the Madrid Commuter Rail Plan, will be added to Line C-4b, between the Colmenar Viejo and Tres Cantos stops. According to socioeconomic studies conducted by Adif, once it is built, there will be approximately 10,000 daily trips from there, “a figure that could nearly double in the future.”
The infrastructure will feature a passenger building and two side platforms partially covered by canopies, as well as an open-plan lobby, restrooms, spaces for station staff, turnstiles, ticket vending machines, and a café with a terrace.
In addition, the station plaza will feature designated areas for public transportation vehicles (buses and taxis) and emergency vehicles. It will also include a bicycle parking area and a connection to the existing bike path in the municipality, and a municipal parking lot will be built in the surrounding area.
Line C-4b will be extended to other municipalities

In addition to adding this new station, line C-4b will undergo various renovation, expansion, and improvement projects by Adif. Among these, work is underway to extend the line (which currently ends in Colmenar Viejo) so that it reaches Soto del Real.
This will not only serve this town but also others in the northern part of the Community of Madrid, such as Miraflores de la Sierra and Guadalix de la Sierra. In addition, the historic building of the old Soto del Real station will be renovated “to turn it into a modern, functional, and accessible station.”
