Madrid’s pool terraces flood the capital’s rooftops from mid-June through September to provide a respite from the dry, scorching air that settles over the city all summer long. Although ground-level pools abound, bathing while overlooking the Gran Vía is a privilege accessible from many centrally located hotels.

1.Aloft Madrid Gran Vía
The Aloft Madrid hotel has one of the best terraces in Madrid. Its pool is small, but difficult to match for its orientation and panoramic views of the city. Located in Jacometrazo street number 4, next to Callao square, this hotel belonging to the Marriott chain enjoys one of the best views of the city skyline on its terrace on the tenth floor. With the Madrid de los Austrias as a backdrop, this space has a Splash Pool on the sides of the rooftop.

2. Hotel Wellington
The Hotel Wellington is a classic of the Salamanca neighborhood, opened in 1952, the hotel is located in a protected historic building. The swimming pool, of large dimensions for what is usual in the city, is located on the central terrace and crowned with a Greek-inspired mosaic. To use the pool without being a guest there are daily vouchers for 80 € from Monday to Thursday and 190 € on weekends with lunch included in the price.

3. Hotel Axel
On Atocha street we also find another hotel with a swimming pool on its terrace. It is called Hotel Axel and is at number 49, where you have the option to cool off in the pool on the rooftop. A pool that does not stand out for its size, but it is in the sky of Madrid and well surrounded by some of the most emblematic buildings of the city and accompanied by outdoor furniture inspired by Memphis design. It is open to the public, but with limited seating and open from 11 am to 1 pm during the weekend.

4. Emperador Hotel
In the middle of Gran Via is the largest pool of the terraces of Madrid, with 14 meters long by six wide. It is in the Hotel Emperador, located at number 53 of the legendary avenue, which has a beach club of 1,000 square meters. On Calle de la Luna, with Gran Vía in front of it, is the Gymage Lounge, a complex dedicated to leisure where there is a gym, restaurant, terrace and, of course, swimming pool, which can be used with prior reservation. With a futuristic decoration, this rooftop has become one of the favorites of the Madrid public, which considers it ideal for taking a summer photo. A terrace that works 365 days a year thanks to its air conditioning system. There you can enjoy a tasty cocktail that will help you forget the heat and travel to a tropical paradise.

6. H10 Puerta de Alcalá
If you want to take a picture of yourself underwater without submerging anything in it, this is your terrace. Located on the seventh floor of the H10 Puerta de Alcalá, at 66 Alcalá Street, the rooftop hides a pool with a minimalist design that leaves no one indifferent. To miss, not even the views, which overlook O’Donnell and Alcalá streets. The space is divided between a restaurant area and a sunbathing area with hammocks. In order to use the pool without staying at the hotel, they have their so-called Brunch with a dip for 50 €.

7. O2 Wellness Manuel Becerra
02 Wellness is a sports complex located at number 17, Plaza de Manuel Becerra. The center stands out for its range of sports activities, but it also has an area where you can free yourself from daily burdens with a spa and a not inconsiderable rooftop pool. A daily, weekly or monthly pass can be purchased for both the pool and the rest of the facilities.

8. Picos Pardos Sky Lounge
Located in the Salamanca neighborhood, on Velázquez street, the Bless Hotel de Madrid has a rooftop pool, and it’s not just any pool. It is an infinity pool surrounded by Balinese beds and tables where to eat. The menu is signed this summer by chef Victor Cuevas and the redesign of the decoration has the stamp of Lázaro Rosa-Violán. The pool is open to the public by reservation.

9. NYX Hotel Madrid
The pool at the NYX Hotel, in the north of the capital, has Balinese beds and tiles that look like tattoos. The dip if you are not staying at the hotel costs 30€ and includes towels and a welcome drink. If you want the full experience you can book the Balinese bed for two people for 120 €, and in addition to all the above, they serve a fruit board.

10. Room Mate Óscar Hotel
Gran Vía is full of hotels that have taken advantage of their terraces to install a swimming pool, and Room Mate Óscar was not going to be an exception. In the Plaza de Pedro Zerolo number 12 we find a superb terrace from which to admire the skyline of the city. Prices range from 60€ for a full day on weekends, to 25€ for half a day on a daily basis, and include towels, locker and glass of champagne. To enter you must book in advance and accept a maximum of 6 people per reservation.

11. Dear Hotel Madrid
The terrace of the influencers is located in the Dear Hotel, at number 80 Gran Via. A small square pool that is known by the name of plunge pool. It stands out for its north orientation from where we can enjoy curious views of the areas of Malasaña or Conde Duque. The pool is exclusively for guests, but you don’t need to stay at the hotel if you feel like visiting the rooftop and having a drink.

12. Hotel Índigo Madrid
A stone’s throw from the Gran Vía, at Calle de Silva, 6, there is another pool that deserves a visit. It is famous for its sunsets thanks to its westward orientation. The pool is narrow, practically testimonial if it were not for the fact that it is an infinity pool in which it seems you can swim until sunset. A different space to spend a different afternoon and try its gastronomic proposal, a fusion between Spanish and Mexican cuisine. The pool is available only for guests, but there is a daytime accommodation option for eight hours that includes the use of the pool.

At number 1, Calle San Bernardo, we find one of those terraces with a pool in Madrid that you can’t say no to. The terrace of the Hotel Santo Domingo is divided into two levels and two atmospheres. In the first space is the pool, which can only be used by people staying at the hotel, has a structure that covers it as if it were a lid. But what makes it stand out is its gastronomic offer, with quality Spanish products at a good price. So you know, if you want to take a bath before eating, this place is unbeatable.

The offer of the Salamanca neighborhood is also very wide in terms of terraces. The NH Hotel located at 4 Marqués de Zurguena Street offers only for its clients a formidable swimming pool on its roofs. If this were a ranking, it would be the first for spectacularity, and probably for being one of the highest in the city, although it is only for guests staying at the hotel. The terrace on the 21st floor can be reserved for events, and is also available for hotel guests. If you want to bathe at the sky, this is the place for you.
