If you are still wondering what to do this weekend, one of the sure bets is to attend a new edition of the Prado by Night initiative this Saturday, April 5. Thanks to it, and with the collaboration of Samsung and Radio 3, tomorrow the art gallery will reopen to the public at night between 8:30 pm and 11:30 pm.
This extraordinary opening of the Prado at night on Saturday April 5 will allow visitors to tour the entire first floor of the Villanueva building. There they will be able to take a tour of the part of its collection that ranges from Romanesque and Gothic painting, through the Renaissance, to end in the nineteenth century. Or to put it another way: they will be able to contemplate emblematic works by artists such as:
- Bosch
- Van der Weyden
- Sofonisba Anguissola
- Fra Angelico
- Patinir
- Madrazo
- Angelica Kauffmann
- Aurelia Navarro
- Maria Roësset
- Fortuny
- Goya
The public will also have the opportunity to visit one of the temporary exhibitions that the museum has recently inaugurated: it is Cambio de forma: Myth and Metamorphosis in the Roman drawings of José de Madrazo. In the words of the museum, “it offers an extraordinary opportunity to reflect on a period of profound historical and artistic transformations”. You can find more information about the exhibition at this link.
Other museums open at night
The Prado is not the only museum to offer free night visits -in its case, on the first Saturday of every month-. The initiative has spread to other museums such as the Thyssen, which this 2025 is opening and will open its doors for free every Saturday of the year from 21h to 23h so that you can visit the exhibition halls of both the Ground Floor and Floor -1.
