There are fewer and fewer valid excuses in Madrid for reading every day to be a pending subject: bookstore clubs, the novel reading parties and festivals for readers are gradually becoming fashionable, turning the habit of reading into a more social hobby than ever.
On May 22, Berno stationery store (one of the oldest in the Retiro district, opened in 1947), the Retiro Norte Neighborhood Association and the Association of Friends of the Jardines del Buen Retiro have organized an ideal event to get started in the world of books: literary meetings at the Eugenio Trias library, located a few meters from the Casa de Fieras.
The meetings will be attended by authors such as Mario Obrero, Alfonso Mateo-Sagasta or Rosa Montero, among others, and will aim to promote the love for books and share the whole process: their creation, edition, their presence and orientation in bookstores and finally their reading.
More activities for readers in Madrid
Sant Jordi is approaching and Madrid is full of activities for literature lovers. On Friday, April 25, authors, cultural institutions, bookstores and libraries from all over the city will participate in the Book Night, an experience that will host literary activities for all audiences. In addition, the Cuesta de Moyano celebrates 100 years of history in the city and organizes an exhibition for us to discover its legacy.
