The Manzanares River will look different next year, it will look much better. In addition to the current Verde lights on the Andorra Bridge, there are 560 meters from the nearby Dam 6 to the pedestrian bridge Oblicuo, next to the Segovia Bridge.
The ducks, Nile geese, herons and coots that now fight for every inch of the naturalized Manzanares River will have to get used to the projected light that will be on both banks. The public works will begin to be installed at the end of June and will last for eight months.
The objective is to make this section more attractive and also to make the night walk along this stretch of the Manzanares River safer for the neighbors, since the lighting is currently somewhat deficient, especially among the pine forests. The City Council’s statement also notes that the work will be respectful “with the criteria of naturalization of the urban section of the Manzanares, without reducing the areas with consolidated plant species or those in which there is an incipient development of species that, in the coming years, will take hold.”
Madrid Río lighting will be efficient and intelligent
A total of 61 floodlights will be installed among the 57 spotlights along the stretch, and the area with the highest light intensity will be the area of dam number 6. This old lock has a small, slate-roofed, Herrerian-style building with a pinnacle that is repeated along the river at other locks. Four more projectors will be aimed at it, highlighting the particularity of the work.
With these intelligent LED luminaires, it is intended not to add light pollution to the area, thanks to an installation in natural stone boxes that will not allow the bulbs to go up towards the sky. In addition, the installation will be equipped with a remote management system to control the light intensity and chromatic variety.
