Madrid’s most traditional street festivals reach one of their key moments today. The San Cayetano festivities, which kick off the Centro district’s festival calendar ahead of San Lorenzo and La Paloma, have a double musical highlight in store for tonight: free concerts by Soleá Morente and RATA, two acts hailing from different scenes—flamenco-pop and generational indie-pop—who will turn Embajadores and El Rastro into a grand open-air stage. From 8:00 p.m. until well into the night, Plaza del General Vara de Rey and Calle de la Ribera de Curtidores will be the focal point for much of the energy of this August in Madrid.
Soleá Morente, the star returning to the neighborhood
Starting at 9:30 p.m., Plaza del General Vara de Rey will host the concert by Soleá Morente, one of the headliners of the San Cayetano 2026 program. The daughter of the legendary Enrique Morente and sister of Estrella Morente, Soleá has forged her own bold and versatile career over the past decade, blending her flamenco heritage with pop rock, indie, and electronic music. The artist returns to the neighborhood where she grew up with her family to deliver a performance that City Hall has highlighted as the highlight of the festivities.
Before Soleá takes the stage at 8:00 p .m ., La Corrala de Zarzuela will perform a traditional show that pays homage to the theatrical and musical roots of these festivities, featuring characters, romances, and nods to the classic repertoire. The night will wrap up at 11:00 p.m. with a set by DJ Tama, who will keep the festive atmosphere going until the early hours of the morning.
RATA, the next generation from Ribera de Curtidores
At the same time as Soleá Morente’s concert, but a few meters further down at Ribera de Curtidores, 2, the RATA By Vibra Mahou concert will take place—another highlight of the San Cayetano lineup. The duo, formed by Daniel Sabater and Félix Esteban, has established itself in recent years as one of the freshest acts on the national indie-pop scene, with generational lyrics, catchy melodies, and an aesthetic that resonates with young audiences.
The program for Calle de la Ribera de Curtidores includes, in addition to RATA’s concert at 9:30 p.m., workshops and family-friendly shows at other times throughout the day, as part of a schedule designed to ensure the entire neighborhood has something to do starting early in the afternoon: children’s magic shows, puppet shows, concerts by bands like The Zona Rock Band and La Fiesta, and brass bands accompanying the traditional free lemonade.
