After weeks of construction and service disruptions, service on several lines of the Madrid Metro network is returning to normal. Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, it will be Line 6’s turn, just in time for the start of the new academic year and two days ahead of schedule: the Moncloa station will reopen, and service will resume between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria.
The reopening comes one month after the start of renovation and improvement work on Line 6, which began on August 1. The goal of the work carried out since then has been “to renovate the track and reinforce the platforms in preparation for the future installation of platform doors that will enable the automation of Line 6,”according to a statement from Metro de Madrid.
Moncloa Station could not be included in the projects carried out in 2025 to automate the service, because during the months when service was suspended on various sections of the line, Moncloa served as the terminal station.
The Madrid Metro network returns to normal after the summer
The end of service disruptions on Line 6 isn’t the only relief for Metro de Madrid riders. On August 14, the section of Line 9B between Arganda del Rey and Rivas Vaciamadrid reopened, while service between the Gregorio Marañón and Pitis stations on Line 7 resumed last Saturday, the 29th.
Although most of the metro network has already returned to normal operation, the service disruption between the Cuzco and Nuevos Ministerios stations on Metro Line 10 remains in place, with the free special bus service provided by the EMT continuing to operate between them. The work, part of the comprehensive renovation project for the Santiago Bernabéu station, is expected to continue through the end of the year.
