Since the early hours of last morning, from 9 to 10 March, Metro Line 6 has been immersed in a process of change: the one that will bring to the grey line, one of the most used by public transport users in the region, driverless trains that will run “every two minutes”, according to the Community of Madrid. And although it will be in June when the works begin, it is necessary to carry out a series of preliminary works that are already altering the usual timetable of the circular line.
As reported by Metro de Madrid, the repercussion for commuters is that until May 31, 2025, from Sunday to Thursday (including holidays and holiday eves) “Line 6 will close earlier at 12 midnight and until the end of the train service”. However on weekends -Fridays and Saturdays- it will maintain its usual schedule.
On the other hand, in case of having to make transfers there is no impediment: as the closure only affects line 6, the stations with connections to other lines will remain accessible.
Free substitute service
For the duration of the works, a free substitute EMT bus service has been set up with two lines (SC1 and SC2, one in each direction) with an approximate frequency of 10 minutes. They will make the full circular route and you can check the exact location of the stops at this link.
The service, to which 18 buses of the fleet will be assigned, will be active between 00h and 2:10h from Sunday to Thursday and to make use of it will not be necessary to show any transport ticket, as it is free of charge.
Another of the novelties that we will see after the remodeling of line 6 will be the automatic doors on the platforms. From May 31 onwards, the line will be closed in sections until December.
