Alcalá de Henares will be just the beginning. The Community of Madrid has given the green light to the construction in the city of Alcalá de Henares of the first of a total of ten regional transport interchanges whose objective is to facilitate connections between buses, Metro and Cercanías in the region.
The Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures has commissioned the company TRAGSATEC to draw up the project, which will be used as a reference for the construction and design of the remaining nine interchanges. According to documentation consulted by Europa Press, the value of the contract amounts to €445,645.35 and its delivery is scheduled for next February 17.
In the case of Alcalá de Henares, the new interchange will be located on a plot of land at number 20 of Vía Complutense with an area of 15,000 square meters, of which 5,230 square meters will be built-up area, according to Madrid Diario. It will have a total of 10 docks and 145 parking spaces.
What will be the other nine interchanges in the network?
As we were saying, the project for the regional interchanges, which is headed by the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM), includes the construction of nine other interchanges in addition to the one in Alcalá de Henares. They are planned to be built in the following municipalities:
- Alcalá de Henares
- Boadilla del Monte
- Aranjuez
- Collado Villalba
- San Sebastián de los Reyes
- Torrelaguna
- Majadahonda
- Pozuelo de Alarcón
- Arganda del Rey
As stated in the documentation relating to the draft of the General Budgets 2025 of the Community of Madrid, “The budget of the autonomous Executive for the Consortium will reach 1,613 million euros in the next fiscal year”.
The last interchange to be inaugurated in the capital was Valdebebas, in the district of Hortaleza. It connects with Cercanías, Metro, urban and interurban buses and Bus Rapid, and also has an area for cabs, a Bicimad station and a parking lot.
