The names of Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz Jr. sound as candidates to burn wheel in the streets of Madrid. According to information published by El Mundo, both Formula 1 drivers “have expressed their willingness” to participate in a couple of showroads in the capital after Ifema made them the proposal.
The reason for this urban race would be to promote the return of single-seater racing to Madrid through the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, an event that will take place in 2026.
The location of these showroads is yet to be defined: the area around the Ifema fairgrounds is an option, but it is not ruled out that they could be held in the center of the city with the approval of the Madrid City Council. The last time the capital hosted something similar was during the summer of 2023, when Checo Pérez got into his single-seater.
As for the dates for these Formula 1 exhibitions, there is no concrete data at the moment either, although El Mundo points out that “they would coincide with the launch of ticket sales for the first race, scheduled for September 2026″.
Formula 1… and MotoGP?
After having achieved the return of Formula 1 to Madrid -which, as it was learned during the presentation of the circuit “will become effective in 2026 and will be extended over a period of ten years, until 2035”-, Ifema is now after getting MotoGP also has a place in the capital.
If this is achieved, the motorcycles would arrive in the city from 2027, after the Formula 1 Grand Prix. According to the aforementioned media, they are working on announcing the agreement “as soon as possible, before the end of the year or at the beginning of 2026”.
