The ninth edition of Archaeologists for a Day, the initiative of the Community of Madrid that allows children to fully immerse themselves in an archaeological excavation through free workshops for the whole family, will be held between June 1 and September 29, 2024.
The activity is focused on boys and girls for ages 8 to 14 -accompanied by an adult- and lasts about two and a half hours. During this time, after receiving an explanation about the process of excavating archaeological remains, they will be able to get down to work.
In other words, they will become archaeologists for a day to learn first-hand about the day-to-day work at a real archaeological site. And that includes tasks ranging from labeling the remains to documenting, photographing and drawing the extracted remains.
The workshops
- Archaeological site of La Cabilda (Hoyo de Manzanares). 11, Camino del Cementerio Street. June 1 to 30. Meeting point: La Cabilda site, next to the municipal morgue. You can find the exact location in this link.
- Complutum Roman City Site (Alcalá de Henares). 12, Camino del Juncal Street. From July 3 to September 29. Meeting point: ticket to the musealized precinct of Ciudad Romana, Complutum. The exact location can be found here.
Reservations for the Archaeologists for a Day workshops
To sign up for the workshops it is necessary to book in advance, and the deadline for this has been opened this morning at 10 am. Places are usually sold out quickly (in fact for the site of La Cabilda there is already a waiting list) but for Complutum you can still get a place, so if you are interested we recommend that you book as soon as possible. The procedure can be carried out through this link.
