The word beach in its purity is used very lightly when it is related to Madrid: a beach is a place that is four jets one park and a beach is a artificial pool of many hundreds of decaliters. But in essence, if there is any place you can talk about in those terms (Madrid beach) is the Pantano de San Juan.
This natural enclave has once again received the Blue Flag, which consolidates it as a safe and sustainable tourist destination.
The beach of Virgen de la Nueva (as it is known) is located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias – barely an hour’s drive from Madrid and an hour and a quarter by bus taking the 551 bus line at Principe Pío. It is about 500 meters long and has sand and fresh water. It also has beach bars, restaurants, children’s playgrounds or zone for kayak rentals.
More Blue Flags
With public swimming pools exactly one week away from opening, the body that determines which beaches in Spain enjoy unquestionable quality has awarded up to 729 flags (638 for beaches, 102 for marinas and 7 for tourist boats).
Spain, on the other hand, becomes the world leader in Blue Flag beaches (with the Valencian Community holding the most flags) with 638 flags, eleven more than last year. Virgen de la Nueva beach received such recognition for the first time in 2018.
