Madrid commemorates Children’s Day on April 26 with free workshops and activities designed for children and families in various museums. This celebration, of great importance in countries such as Mexico, comes to the capital thanks to the joint initiative of the Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers and the Fundación Crecer Jugando.
Several organizations and museums are joining the initiative to dedicate a special day to children, offering from today a special free program for the youngest members of the family. We highlight some of the most relevant activities, which can become an excellent weekend plan in Madrid to enjoy with children and as children.
Museo del Prado – Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28
The Prado Museum organizes workshops throughout the weekend on the occasion of the holiday. They are aimed at children between 5 and 12 years old and there will be two shows (at 11 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.) with an affordable family price: 12 € per family. During both days, children under 18 years of age will have free access to the museum.
Thyssen Museum – Bornemisza – April 27th
The museum offers free tickets for children under 18 years old and the price of its workshops is 8€ per person. The workshops, promoted by EducaThyssen, are aimed at various age groups: “Co-Loca” (at 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.) is to encourage creativity and is intended for a family audience with children from 3 to 6 years old. The activity “En tierra de todos” (At 12:00 noon), is a visit-workshop aimed at families with members older than 7 years, at the same time is the proposal “Paso, pasea, paisaje”, “El título es mío” and “Blanco sobre blanco” also for children over 7 years old. These last two proposals will have another screening at 4:30 pm.
Railroad Museum of Madrid – Saturday, April 27th
On April 27 the Railroad Museum of Madrid celebrates Children’s Day to promote society’s attention to children, their development, well-being and happiness. In addition to offering free admission for children under 12 years of age, visitors will be able to enjoy a Program of activities and workshops aimed at children.
These activities must be reserved at the box office on the day of the visit until full capacity is reached. There will be a workshop where children can create a railway cap, another workshop called “Don Quixote’s Dream” in relation to the literary character, a children’s musical theater play in a single session at 11:45 a.m. and trips aboard the 9121 “Zaragoza” railcar, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., as well as train rides on the “Ferrocarril de las Delicias” garden trains, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Museum of Natural Sciences – Saturday, April 27th
At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th, the Museum of Natural Sciences of Madrid will hold a workshop based on the story Leo is King, for children from 4 to 7 years old. Admission to the museum, which is usually free on Sundays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., will also be free with prior registration.
CD Leganés Foundation – From Monday April 22 to Thursday April 25
Club Deportivo Leganés offers two completely free activities to celebrate Children’s Day. The first is La Biblioteca del Lega, an initiative that arose as a result of the pandemic in which Leganés children can read the book Leganés es de Primera, written by Daniel Abanda and David Aguilera about the club’s promotion to the First Division, as well as receive a guided tour.
The second of the activities is called “Día del niño pepinero”, with activities such as a human foosball table, ice beds, mini-football, basketball and skating, face painting, car show and the Lega Bus.
Wax Museum of Madrid – April 26th
The Madrid Wax Museum joins the initiative and offers a 50% discount on tickets for children or groups such as schools to visit the museum only on the 26th. Tickets are available at a reduced price now.
In the Wax Museum there are more than 450 figures with characters of all times. Among the most successful are Cristiano Ronaldo, Sofia Vergara, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie, Leonardo DiCaprio and chef Dabiz Muñoz.
